BTO Cuckoo Tracking Project
The Fylde Bird Club supports this project by sponsoring a number of Cuckoos at a cost of £10 per bird.
The donations contribute to the cost of satellite tracking devices and data download and processing.
In 2021 the Club sponsored five satellite tagged cuckoos:
Columbus – tracker fitted in Perthshire Scotland
Victor II – tracker fitted in Perthshire Scotland
Daniel – tracker fitted in Powys Wales
AJ – tracker fitted in Sherwood Forest England
Ellis – tracker fitted in Perthshire Scotland
Unfortunately all these birds have since perished but significant data was obtained on their migration routes, stop-over locations and wintering areas.
Given the success of this project, Fylde Bird Club has taken the decision to sponsor a new group of birds that have recently been tagged.
Our new birds are Joe, Cuach Torc, Jasper, KP and Sayaan.

At the time of writing Sayaan has just crossed the Sahara whilst KP is in Italy following the eastern route which Ellis previously used.
